Family-Based Immigration

Helping Families Come Together in the United States

At The Law Offices of Marilyn Labrada Dume, we keep in close contact with our clients and we enjoy witnessing their progress as new immigrants. As attorneys, we enjoy seeing families come together in the United States with the help of our skilled advocacy.

Our Englewood, New Jersey, law firm offers legal guidance through a wide range of family immigration matters. We assist in the counsel and processing of visas when family members are abroad, we also represent couples in need of fiance (fiancee) visas, and assist with family-based immigration petitions.

There are several types of family-based visas available. Certain people may qualify for certain types of visas depending on their needs and family relationships—contact us today to find out which visa you might qualify for:

  • F-1 visas: These visas are available to immediate family members of U.S. citizens, including spouses, parents of an adult child and unmarried children under 21. They are usually the quickest visas available because you do not need to wait for a visa number.
  • F-2A visas: These family-based visas are available to spouses of legal permanent residents.
  • F-2B visas: These family-based visas are available to the unmarried children of legal permanent residents. The children must be under 21 years of age.
  • F-3 visas: F-3 visas are available to married children of United States citizens.
  • F-4 visas: F-4 family-based visas are available to brothers and sisters of United States citizens.

Family-Based Adjustment of Status

Adjustment of status refers to the procedure for becoming a lawful permanent resident without having to leave the United States. Based on a family relationship, you may apply for legal permanent resident status (often called getting your “green card”).

The procedure is complex and even a small error can mean delay or denial, so it is best to work with an experienced immigration lawyer. You may be required to file a Relative Petition and an Adjustment of Status Application. You may also be required to participate in an in-person interview at a local U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office.
